West Georgia Takes Home First Women's Golf Conference Championship
FINAL TOURNAMENT STATS
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - After making a move to the top in the second round, West Georgia was able to maintain distance between themselves and the rest of the field and win the first women's golf championship in school history.
The second round proved to make the entire difference. In rounds one and three, Lee was one stroke better than West Georgia, but the Wolves' 298 in the second round was the best team round of the tournament and 14 strokes better than any other team on that day.
Consistency was the key for UWG. West Georgia placed three golfers (
Maria Torres,
Taylor Sarratt, and
Franziska Bremm) in the top five of the tournament, and none of those three had any rounds above 77.
For the third straight year, Lee finished in second place. The top three golfers for Lee all tied for eighth place, with each one shooting a 14-over par 230.
West Florida had its streak of five consecutive conference titles snapped with a third place finish. The Argonauts'
Lauren Lamm finished fourth and made the GSC All-Tournament Team.
West Alabama's
Ye Yun Jin was the surprise medalist for the event, carding a three-over pay 219. Jin came into the tournament with the 14th best stroke average in the league and was seeded second on her team. Jin won convincingly, clearing the rest of the field by four strokes.
