All-GSC women's golf honors announced
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2016 Women’s Golf All-GSC Team was announced by the conference on Thursday.
Twelve student-athletes, representing five schools, were selected to the First and Second team. Leading the way were Lee and West Florida with four selections apiece. Following the Lady Flames and Argos was West Georgia with two selections. West Alabama and Shorter had one selection each.
The GSC Women’s Golf Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year awards were also announced.
UWG’s BREMM TABBED AS PLAYER AND FRESHMAN GOLFER OF THE YEAR
West Georgia’s Franziska Bremm is the 2016 GSC Women’s Golf Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year.
The native of Colmberg, Germany, had six top-three finishes this season, including individual victories at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, the Armstrong Pirate Invitational and the West Georgia Invitational. Bremm also won the individual title at the GSC Women’s Golf Championship tournament.
Bremm, ranked No. 27, will continue her freshman campaign at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf South Regional Tournament.
UWF’s CLARKE NAMED GSC COACH OF THE YEAR
West Florida head coach Bryan Clarke is the 2016 GSC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.
Clarke led his No. 8-ranked Argos team to four top-three finishes this season, including a win at the 2016 GSC Women’s Golf Championship tournament. Under Clarke, West Florida will continue postseason play at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf South Regional Tournament.
This is the second-consecutive year Clarke has won the award and his third time since joining West Florida in 2012.
