2016 All-GSC Women's Soccer announced
Birmingham, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced its annual All-GSC Team on Monday as individual accolades went to standouts at West Florida and Lee.
Both
West Florida and
Lee saw a league-high six honored on this year’s 22-member All-GSC Team. The Argonauts had all six make the First Team, while the Lady Flames had a league-best four on the Second Team.
Mississippi College and
North Alabama both had three student-athletes each make the list, while
West Alabama had two. Rounding out the list of honorees, both
Shorter and
Union, which had one each.
GSC Co-Player of the Year | GSC Freshman of the Year
West Florida forward
Marjorie Boilesen, a native of Sao Paolo, Brazil, earned both
GSC Co-Player of the Year and
GSC Freshman of the Year honors after leading the conference in the regular season in total points (34) and total assists (14), while also finding the back of the net 10 times, including four game-winning goals. She sported league-bests with 1.94 points-per-game and 0.81 assists-per-game, which she also ranked second in all of NCAA Division II in. She turned in a league-high five GSC Freshman of the Week accolades (9/6, 9/20-27, 10/18-25) and recorded at least one point in nine-straight contests to open the season. In fact, in her 17 matches, she only failed to record a point in just two contests. She tallied her first-career hat trick against West Georgia (9/25), dished out another career-high three helpers against Spring Hill (10/16) and had at least one assist in all but five matches.
GSC Co-Player of the Year
Lee forward
Summer Lanter, earned
GSC Co-Player of the Year after scoring 11 goals, with five assists, for 27 points. The striker had four multigoal performances this season, including a hat trick against Shorter (9/25). She also posted a nice stretch in mid-October with a goal and two assists versus West Alabama (10/14) and, against Alabama Huntsville (10/16), two netters and a helper. She closed the regular season averaging 3.88 shots-per-game and 1.69 points-per-game.
GSC Coach of the Year
West Florida head coach
Joe Bartlinski was named the
GSC Coach of the Year after guiding his West Florida squad to a share of the GSC Regular Season Championship and a top-seed nod in the GSC Tournament. UWF went 14-4, including 11-1 in GSC play, which included a 13-2 finish to close the regular season. The Argonauts curently pace the league with a 2.71 scoring offense, 7.76 points-per-game, 2.35 assists-per-game, 144-total points, 50-total goals, 44-total assists and a .706 shutout percentage. Coach "Bart" has now been named the conference's top coach six times, his first since 2013. He will look to lead the Argos to their seventh all-time GSC Tournament Title.
