Tunica, MSWest Florida came from behind to successfully defended its GSC Men's Golf Championship today at Tunica National Golf Club in Tunica, MS.
UWF entered the Final Round ranked third-place and six shots behind the leader only to storm back in the final 18 holes.  The Argonauts led all teams in the Final Round, posting a +3, 291, which vaulted the defending Champions to first-place via a +1, 865.  The win marked West Florida’s 12th all-time Men’s Golf Crown, trailing former member Troy State’s record of 13.
Delta State entered Tuesday at the top of the leader board, but the Statesmen settled for a second-place tie with North Alabama as each compiled a three-round total of 870 (+6).  Future member Lee University turned-in an impressive performance in it’s first-ever Tournament, holding on to its fourth-place spot (+4, 874).  West Georgia (+27, 891) finished two shots ahead of Christian Brothers (+29, 893) for fifth place, while Valdosta State (+54, 918), West Alabama (+58, 922) and future members Union (+63, 927) and Shorter (+71, 935) completed the 10-team field.
History was made individually, as West Florida’s Juan Miguel Heredia, posted the lowest 54-hole score in GSC Tournament history by firing a +13, 203 en route to Individual Medalist honors.  Heredia broke the former record held by UNA’s Brett Munson in 2010 (204).  Completing the All-Tournament Team were North Alabama’s Connor Godsey (second-place, -12, 204), Delta State’s Reed Lindsey (third-place, -8, 208), UWF’s Esteban Castro (tied for sixth, +1, 217), West Georgia’s Corey Evans (tied for sixth, +1, 217) and Christian Brothers’ Mitchell Bennett (tied for sixth, +1, 217).  Lee’s Shea Sylvester (fourth-place, -5, 211) and Hunter Vest (fifth-place, E, 216) finished within the Top Five, but LU was not eligible for Tournament honors.
