GSC announces All-Conference honors for volleyball

Birmingham, Ala.—The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its All-GSC Volleyball honors for the 2014 season.

Three GSC schools landed four players each on the postseason list, led by Shorter which garnered three First Teamers. Valdosta State split evenly between First Team and Second Team, adding two in each team. West Florida is honored with one First Teamer and three Second Teamers, with two of those Second Teamers freshmen. Christian Brothers marked three players on the team, two on the First Team. Alabama Huntsville adds two Second Teamers to the list, and West Alabama round out the field of twenty with one Second Teamer starred.
 
VSU’s CODATO NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Junior setter Jessica Codato (São Paulo, Brazil) earns the GSC Player of the Year. She shoveled 287 digs during the regular season with an average of 2.73 digs-per-set. Offensively, she has a .285 hitting percentage, accumulating 115 kills and 1,019 assists. Her 9.66 assists-per-set is ranked third in the GSC.
 
UNA’s KAPOVICH TABBED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Freshman defensive specialist Ashtyn Kapovich (Lansing, Ill.) receives GSC Freshman of the Year accolades. She totaled 477 digs this season, averaging 4.50 digs-per-set. She is leading the GSC in each category. She accomplished double figures in digs in all but one match this season. She recorded 20 digs or more seven times during the season and recorded 30 digs in a match once.
 
SU’s MOSELEY WINS COACH OF THE YEAR
Shorter Head Coach Jon Moseley, in their first year of eligibility for championships, was named the GSC Coach of the Year. In his ninth season as head coach, Moseley has currently obtained at 220-95 overall record. The Vanderbilt University graduate brought the Hawks their first Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) title in 2007, including a pair of appearances in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship.
