2013 All-GSC Men's Golf Honors Announced

Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce the 2013 All-GSC Men’s Golf Team as selected the league’s coaches.
Four different schools provided at least one honoree on the six-member squad, led by
North Alabama which placed three standouts.
Valdosta State,
West Florida and
West Georgia completed the team via one winner apiece.
GSC INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Ricky Stimets became North Alabama’s first
GSC Player of the Year since 2010 and fourth all-time winner. The senior was a unanimous selection after finishing the 2013 regular season as the GSC’s top ranked golfer in the GolfStat Standings at No. 17. The Worcester, MA native entered the GSC Tournament with an 18-round scoring average of 72.33.
UNA completed a sweep of the individual student-athlete awards, claiming the
GSC Freshman of the Year.
Michael Peter became the first-ever Lion to claim the Freshman honor, averaging a score of 75.18 in 11 rounds. The Florence, AL native was his team’s highest scorer in two tournaments in 2013 with his top effort coming at the Southeastern Collegiate (17
th).
West Florida’s Steve Fell was named the
GSC Coach of the Year for a Conference-Record 11
th time dating back to 1995. Fell guided UWF to its 11
th all-time Conference Title earlier this week. The Championship also marked the Argonauts’ second in three years.
ALL-GSC TEAM
The 2013 All-GSC Team is headlined by just two returning members from last season’s squad.
North Alabama’s Ricky Stimets and
Valdosta State’s Nate Anderson are back from a year ago and are the lone upperclassmen on this year’s team.
Newcomers included
UNA sophomore Trent Alexander and
freshman Michael Peter,
West Florida sophomore Gary Buffington III and
West Georgia freshman Corey Evans. Evans celebrated his first season at UWG by posting an All-Tournament, eighth-place effort at the GSC Championship.
