GSC Announces All-Conference Baseball Teams
Complete Release
Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference is pleased to announce its 2012 All-Conference Baseball Team.
Delta State led all schools with nine overall members, followed by West Florida which placed eight. All eight GSC teams garnered at least one player on the First Team, headlined by Alabama-Huntsville and Valdosta State which earned a team-best four honorees.
VSU SWEEPS INDIVIDUAL HONORS
Valdosta State swept individual accolades with senior designated hitter Christian Glisson and freshman catcher Bryant Hayman taking home laurels.
Glisson became VSU’s third GSC Player of the Year in the last four seasons and its fifth all-time winner. The Hahira, GA native completed the 2012 regular season leading the league in batting average (.420), total bases (120) and doubles (20). He also ranked second in hits (68), homeruns (9) and triples (tied, 3) and third in RBI (44).
Hayman is Valdosta State’s second GSC Freshman of the Year, following former great Scott Simpson in 2000. The Waycross, GA native was also the lone freshman member of the All-GSC First Team. Hayman started in 39 games for VSU, ranking third in the GSC in slugging percentage (.583), homeruns (tied, 8) and sixth in RBI (tied, 38) and total bases (81).
ALL-GSC TEAM
The 2012 All-GSC Team is headlined by one returning First Team member and four players who made the jump from the 2011 Second Team. Alabama-Huntsville shortstop Grand DeBruin earns his second straight First Team nod after leading the Conference in hits (70) and RBI (49).
Four other First Team standouts advanced from last year’s Second Team: West Florida third baseman Josh Huggins, Valdosta State designated hitter Christian Glisson, North Alabama starting pitcher Chad Boughner and Delta State starting pitcher Aaron Newcomb.
Returning from the 2011 Second Team are UNA standouts, first baseman Josh Cyr, shortstop Josh Carpenter and designated hitter Jake Sloan.
