Calera, ALNo. 3 North Alabama sewed up the 2012 Men's Golf Championship today at Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Alabama.

UNA entered the day with just a four-shot lead over defending Champion West Florida, but the Lions ran away in the final 18 holes by posting a Tournament-high 286.  The win earned UNA its third overall Title in the last four years.

North Alabama finished with a combined 54-hole total of 883 (+31), while UWF settled for second-place via a 907 (+55).  West Georgia (+58, 910) moved past in-state rival Valdosta State (+61, 913) for third place, and Delta State (+73, 925) and Christian Brothers (+132, 984) completed the field.

A sudden-death playoff was needed to decide the Individual Medalist for the first time since 2007.  VSU’s Nate Anderson entered the day with four-shot lead over the rest of the field, but Anderson’s Final Round 77 opened the door for North Alabama’s Tyler Chandler who fired a -2, 69.  The two standouts finished the 54-hole event tied with +5, 218 scores, forcing a sudden-death playoff for the first time since 2007 when UNA’s Daniel Creel topped VSU’s Jason Flowers.  Sudden-death action started at the par-four, first hole and Anderson secured the Individual Title with a par compared to Chandler’s bogie.

Completing the five-member All-Tournament Team was UNA’s Jake Greer (third-place, +6, 219), UWF’s Carlos Rodriguez (fourth-place, +9, 222) and North Alabama’s Tyler Ekenberg (fifth-place, +10, 223).

North Alabama also earned the GSC’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, while West Florida and Valdosta State also hold out post-season hopes.  The 2012 NCAA Division II Super Regionals will be held from May 7-9 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, NC.
