West Florida Wins Fifth Consecutive GSC Volleyball Crown
After two pressure-packed sets, the University of
West Florida used a dominating performance to win its fifth consecutive Gulf South Conference championship with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-10 win over
Christian Brothers Sunday afternoon.
The win was the ninth straight for the Argos (25-9), who earned the GSC’s automatic berth in the NCAA South Region Tournament.
Haley Shackelford had a match-high 12 kills and hit .458 for UWF, which hit .339 as a team.
The two squads went back-and-forth during the first set but CBU (20-12) was never able to take a lead and fell after hitting just .130. The Lady Bucs did much better in the second set behind the efforts of
Lizzie McLean, who was perfect in five attempts for a team that hit .314. But the Argos were even better, hitting .447 with Shackelford (six kills, .667) and
Jenny Bellairs (five kills, .571) setting the pace.
The third set was all UWF, scoring the first six points and never looking back. The Argos hit .480 (13-1-25) and held the Lady Bucs to an .036 percentage.

Autumn Duyn had eight kills, 16 digs and four blocks (one solo) and won Most Outstanding Player honors for the second consecutive season.
