GSC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors, May 3
EAST DIVISION
West Alabama starting pitcher Jeb Huber (JR, 5-10, 165, Ponchatoula, LA)
Huber collects his first-ever honor and is UWA’s first winner this season. The junior led the Tigers to a 6-1 win in the series opener at home over No. 1 West Florida. The Ponchatoula, LA native nearly recorded the shutout, going 8.2 innings with nine strikeouts while allowing three hits and one earned run. Huber fanned nine batters for the second time this season.

Valdosta State catcher Josh Vining (SR, 5-11, 192, Swainsboro, GA)
Vining earns his first-ever award and is VSU’s third honoree of the season. The senior posted multiple hits in all four of the Blazers’ games this past week, going 11-for-14 at the plate led by two home runs and seven RBI. He went 3-for-4 in an 11-3 win over Thomas, driving in three runs and lacing his first home run of the season. The Swainsboro, GA native helped VSU clinch the No. 3 seed in the GSC Tournament via a pair of wins over West Georgia. Vining opened the series with a 3-for-3 performance and his second homer of the week.

Southern Arkansas starting pitcher Doug Shields (JR, 6-1, 160, Mesquite, TX)
Shields records his second accolade in three weeks after commanding the mound in a 9-1 win over Arkansas-Monticello. The junior posted his sixth win of the season, going six innings with 10 strikeouts and allowing just two hits. The Mesquite, TX native faced just three batters over his minimum and retired 10 consecutive batters from the second to fifth innings.

Henderson State third baseman Brittain Diamond (JR, 6-3, 205, Sulphur Springs, TX)
Diamond is the first HSU award winner since 2008. The junior hit safely in all four of the Reddies’ contests versus Top 30 teams. The Sulphur Springs, TX native went 10-for-14 for a .714 average and also slugged for a 1.286 percentage. He started the week in grand fashion, going 3-for-4 with one double and a grand slam versus No. 27 Southeastern Oklahoma State. He followed with four more RBI in Game Two, behind two more doubles. Diamond opened a rain-shortened, two-game set versus No. 29 Delta State with a 4-for-4 effort in the first contest.
