EAST DIVISION

West Georgia starting pitcher Jarod Slaven (SR, 6-3, 192, Suwanee, GA).

Slaven’s selection marks UWG’s first pitching award winner since 2006. The senior continued his impressive return from an injury earlier in the year, guiding the Wolves to a 5-0 shutout victory over Alabama-Huntsville. The Suwanee, GA native tossed a complete-game, allowing just three hits and one walk and fanning five batters in seven innings.

Alabama-Huntsville right fielder Eric Deese (JR, 6-2, 180, Tuscaloosa, AL).

Deese earns his first-ever award and is UAH’s first honoree this season. The junior played in all four games for the Chargers last week, going 8-for-16 behind two doubles, one triple and one homerun. He also slugged for a .939 percentage and drove in nine RBI and scored five runs. The Tuscaloosa, AL native went 2-for-4 along with four RBI in a mid-week win over Montevallo before opening the West Georgia series with two doubles, one homerun and four more RBI.

WEST DIVISION

 

Delta State starting pitcher Aaron Newcomb (JR, 6-3, 1950, Centralie, IL).

Newcomb claims his first-ever accolade and second by a DSU hurler this season. The junior helped the Statesmen guarantee the series victory over first-place Harding, leading Delta State to a 2-1, extra-inning victory in Game Two. The Centralie, IL native went the distance in the extra-inning affair, hurling all eight frames, while striking out six batters and surrendering one earned run on six hits. DSU enters this week’s regular season finale in a three-way tie for first place in the West Division.

Southern Arkansas third baseman Logan Williams (SR, 6-1, 215, Damascus, AR).


Williams receives his third career award, second this season, after hitting safely in all four games. The senior was responsible for 20 of 48 runs in the Muleriders’ 4-0 week, batting in 13 and scoring seven. The Damascus, AR native went 9-for-16 for a .562 average and also compiled a 1.125 slugging percentage. His most impressive effort of the week came in Southern Arkansas’ 8-0 win over Christian Brothers, where he went 4-for-4 with two homeruns and six RBI.
