2011 All-GSC Women's Tennis Team Announced
Birmingham, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference proudly announces its 2011 Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team.
West Division Champion Delta State led the way with four All-GSC members. GSC Champion West Florida and runner-up North Alabama followed with three selections, while Arkansas Tech, Harding, and Valdosta State each added two selections.
EAST DIVISION PLAYER HONORS
West Florida senior Taylor Brewster became the ninth Argonaut to claim the GSC East Division Player of the Year award. She is the first player from UWF to win the award since 2008.
Bruna Vieria is the fifth player from North Alabama to be named GSC Freshman of the Year, marking the first Lion winner since 2008.
DSU, HU PLAYERS EARN WEST DIVISION AWARDS
DSU almost swept the GSC West Division individual awards for the second consecutive year.
Sophomore Laura Mongin, who won top freshman honors last season, was chosen GSC West Division Player of the Year. She is the third Lady Statesman winner in the last four years and just the fourth overall honoree.
Hidemi Mayeshiro is the third consecutive Lady Statesmen netter to be named GSC Freshman of the Year and Delta State’s fifth freshman winner overall. She shared the award with Harding’s Benyapa Phumtip, who is just the third Lady Bison to win the award and first since 2006.
UWF’S RACINE NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
West Florida’s Derrick Racine was named the GSC Coach of the Year for a league-record seventh time. It is the first time he has earned the honor since 2007. He led the Argonauts to this season’s GSC Championship and has UWF ranked No. 3 in the South Region and No. 7 in the nation.
