GSC Baseball Players of the Week, April 19
EAST DIVISION
West Florida starting pitcher Jason Postill (SR, 6-0, 185, Orlando, FL).
Postill collects his second award of the season and is UWF’s seventh pitching honoree of 2011 (second in a row). The senior ruled the mound for UWF in an 8-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville in the second game of the series. The Orlando, FL native hurled 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while fanning 10 batters. Postill upped his record for the season to 10-0.
West Florida right fielder Greg Pron (SR, 6-6, 195, Daphne, AL)
Pron earns his second honor of the season after leading UWF’s offense in its 3-1 week. The senior hit safe in all four games, going 10-for-16 for a .625 average while also slugging for a 1.313 percentage. The Daphne, AL native opened the week by pounding out six runs on two hits in a 17-6 win over Mobile. He remained hot in the three-game series versus Alabama-Huntsville, bashing three homeruns in the series along with eight RBI a perfect 4-for-4 effort on stolen bases.
WEST DIVISION
Southern Arkansas starting pitcher Doug Shields (JR, 6-1, 160, Mesquite, TX).
Shields notches SAU’s fourth honor of the season and is the third different Muleriders’ pitching honoree. The junior guided Southern Arkansas to a 4-2 triumph over Ouachita Baptist in the second game on Saturday. The Mesquite, TX native tossed his first complete-game of his career, striking out 12 batters in 7.0 innings of work. He allowed a pair of runs in the third inning, but shutdown the Tigers from there, led by eight strikeouts the rest of the way.
Delta State first baseman Kellen Bozeman (SR, 6-2, 210, Baton Rouge, LA).
Bozeman is the second DSU player to take home accolades this season, helping the Statesmen to score 29 runs in the games last weekend. The senior was a one-man wrecking crew versus Arkansas Tech, pounding out 10 RBI thanks to two doubles, one triple and one homerun. The Baton Rouge, LA native set the tone in the opener versus ATU, hitting for the cycle in five at bats and totaling seven RBI in a 15-11 triumph. He capped the series with a 3-for-4 performance in Game Three along with three RBIs and one double.
