UNA's Brown and Spurr Tabbed Academic All-Americans
A pair of North Alabama standouts represented the GSC on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Senior defender Beth Spurr led the way becoming the league's first First Team Academic All-American women's soccer selection since 2009. The Louisville, KY native started all 21 matches for UNA this season, leading the Lions' defense to 10 shutouts and carries a 4.00 overall G.P.A. as a Foreign Lanuage/French major.
Junior midfielder Nikki Brown added to her list of honors this season, earning Second Team laurels after also claiming Second Team recognition on the Daktronics All-America squad. The Bognor Regis, England native set the school record for career assists this season (44) and she has a cumulative 3.68 G.P.A. as a Second Education major.
