2011 GSC Men's Soccer All-GSC Teams, Nov. 2
Complete Release (PDF)
Birmingham, Ala. — Regular season champion Christian Brothers paced the 2011 Gulf South Conference men’s soccer all-conference selections, announced today by the conference office.
The Buccaneers placed seven players on the 26-member team, including a league-high four on the First Team. West Florida was next with six overall honorees, while Alabama-Huntsville followed with five. Harding added four members and Delta State and Ouachita Baptist posted two players each.
Overall, 10 former All-GSC picks were selected to this year’s team, five of them off of the 2010 First Team.
UWF’s REYNOLDS SELECTED AS TOP PLAYER
West Florida defenseman Sean Reynolds was chosen as Player of the Year as a result of his stellar play on the back end for the Argonauts. Reynolds, a 6-foot-2, 173-pound senior from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., started 15 matches for UWF. He scored a goal and added an assist but was more renowned for headlining a defensive unit that held opponents to the third-fewest goals in the GSC. Reynolds earned one Defender of the Week award this season and makes his second appearance on the All-GSC First Team after being selected as a midfielder in 2010. He is the third Argonaut to win Player of the Year, the first since 2009.
CBU’s FERRAZ SELECTED AS TOP PLAYER
Christian Brothers forward Jose Ferraz enjoyed a spectacular inaugural season for the Bucs and was chosen as Freshman of the Year after leading the GSC in goals scored. He is the third player in CBU history to take home the award, the first since 2001. Ferraz, at 5-foot-8, 151 pounds from Belo Horizante, Brazil, is not the biggest figure on the pitch during most matches. But he was difficult to stop when he had a chance to score for CBU. He scored 14 goals and was second in the league with 29 points. Ferraz was twice named GSC Player of the Week this season.
CBU’s BROWNE SELECTED AS TOP COACH
Christian Brothers coach Clint Browne was named GSC Coach of the Year after leading the Bucs to GSC regular season title for just the second time, the first since 2001. CBU went undefeated in conference play, allowed the fewest goals in the GSC and are currently the top-ranked team in the South Region after finishing the regular season on a eight-match win streak. This is Browne’s second Coach of the Year award after he shared the honor in 2005.
