Alabama-Huntsville Dominates for Second GSC Men's Cross Country Title

Hoover, Ala.— Alabama-Huntsvilletook the top four places and had seven runners place in the top-12 to earn its second Gulf South Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Veterans Park.

UAH topped the eight-team field with 17 points, easily outpacing West Florida (55) for its first title since 2007. West Alabama (78) followed at third-place, while West Georgia and ValdostaState (both 128) rounded out the Top-5. Christian Brothers (6th, 165), and North Alabama (7th, 174) completed the scoring.

UAH senior Josh Moshier, who did not run last season and placed third in 2009, grabbed GSC Individual Medalist honors with a time of 26:28.94 He finished just ahead of teammate Blaise Binns, whose time of 26:29.64 earned him Freshman of the Year honors. UAHdominated the standings with Jose Ortega (26:34, 3rd), Dante Dorsey (26:43, 4th), Myles Scarano (26:59, 7th) and Joey Bemowski (27:05, 9th) each placing on the All-GSC First Team. Samson Too,(27:16, 12th) made the Second Team.
 
Rounding out the first team was Dominique Sykes (26:49, 5th), Martinique Sykes (26:57, 6th), and Eddie Pagan (27:06, 10th) of UWF and UWA’s Brandon Nelson (27:00, 8th).
 
Second Team All-GSC honors went to the 11th through 20th place finishers: UWA’s Warren Enriquez (27:08, 11th), Kenny Slavik (27:20, 13th) and David Farist (27:41, 20th); UWG’s Jake Hudson (27:21, 14th); VSU’s Jesse Benjamin Price (27:21, 14th) and Christopher Rice (27:41, 19th); UWF’s Chris Roach (27:32, 16th) and Cody Haden (27:34, 18th),and CBU’s Kyle McLarty (27:33, 17th).
 
The GSC Head Coaches will vote on the GSC Coach of the Year award Monday afternoon.
